Writing Alchemy for Fantasy (Creative Writing)
I always wanted to touch on Alchemy but I didn’t know how to tackle it.
But now, after some reading and videos, I’m ready to explore the wondrous world of alchemy.
I’ll even touch on the little I could pick up from Korean and Chinese comics.
With that out of the way, let’s start by defining it broadly.
What is Alchemy?
Alchemy in history:
“A medieval chemical science and speculative philosophy aiming to achieve the transmutation of the base metals into gold, the discovery of a universal cure for disease, and the discovery of a means of indefinitely prolonging life.”

Alchemy is in Fantasy:
“A power or process that changes or transforms something in a mysterious or impressive way.”
- Merriam Webster
That “mysterious” way is often magical in nature.
Simple, now let’s see what alchemy can do.
What Does Alchemy Do?
Almost anything.
Depending on the mixed reagents and what you decide the potion/item does, it can do almost anything.
